The Chester Innkeepers Association is the First Association of Vermont Innkeepers to adopt a policy requiring ALL members to be designated as Green Hotels. Each member has gone through the process of being assessed and designated Green by the State/Vermont Green Hotels in the Green Mountain State.
As the first association of its kind in the country, each innkeeper has pledged to insure a continued commitment to protecting the environment, the health and safety of our guests and employees, and the community in which we conduct our business.
Each member has adopted policies to seek improvements throughout our business operations that lessen our impact on the local and global environment by conserving energy, water, and other natural resources; reducing waste generation; recycling and purchasing recycled products; and reducing our use of toxic materials.
We are committed to pollution prevention, continual improvement and meeting or exceeding all environmental regulatory requirements.

What to Expect at a Chester Green Hotel Facility:
WATER: Most of our members have already installed Water Saving Shower Heads - at a minimum of 2.5 GPM, some members have installed units using 1.6 GPM. As part of their Environmental Management Plans, members will continue to install these units as replacement is warranted. Learn more about how to do this at home at: http://www.energybooks.com/pdf/445447.pdf.
AMENITIES: Many of our members offer Paper Packaged Amenity products, others offer amenity dispensers, which saves thousands of pounds of plastic amenity packaging from entering landfills yearly.
REUSE PROGRAM: Members offer lodging guests the option to utilize their towels and linens for the length of their stay, in order to conserve energy and reduce waste. Members would never compromise on the quality of the guest experience, and in such, a request for new towels and/or linens is always graciously honored. Voluntary reuse of towels/linens during the individual visit protects the environment from damage caused by harsh chemical detergents and contributes to a substantial reduction of unnecessary water waste.
RECYCLING: The number of recycling programs available in Chester Village is as many as the number of innkeepers... Management programs include all types of activity from simple recycling units to advanced compost programs, depending upon the facility. Check with your innkeeper for specific details on their program offerings.
BUY LOCAL: Chester Innkeepers Association members pride themselves on a tradition of supporting local businesses. Among other things, the village offers two active Farmers Markets; the Stone Village Farmer's Market and a seasonal summer market located on Main Street. Throughout the year, innkeepers go "the extra mile" to support local businesses and in doing so conserve energy and eliminate unnecessary transportation of goods into our local area.
